It is my sad duty to report the
passing of 6 Kp members in the last year. Our Regional Director for North
America Kp 455 Warren of Long Island New York passed away August 3rd.
He had been quite ill the past 4-5 years, and not very active on the radio.
Warren was largely responsible for making our Group very popular in our early
years between 1983 and 1993. Warren was directly responsible for at least 100
new members being added to the Group throughout the years. Warren LOVED Knight
Patrol, and everybody LOVED Warren. He was always 100% KP. He had a certain
friendly mannerism and tone to his voice that compelled you to have a QSO with
him every time you heard him. He had a very distinctive voice that was
immediately recognizable. Warren had been on the 11 Mtr. band since the early
1970’s, and at one point, I am sure he was one of the most popular operators
on the entire 11 Mtr. Band. Thousands of people knew Warren by his very famous
call sign. “Kp Four Double Nickel”. The passing of this Dx Man is a
great loss not only to our Group, but also to the whole 11 Mtr. Band. I urge
everyone who knew Warren to send a sympathy card to his family via his wife
Eleanor.

In the past year there has been many members inquiring about the possibility of a Kp meeting in Florida. The past Kp meetings in 1992 and 1993 were a great success. Everyone had a great time. If you are interested to attend the next Kp meeting in 2003, please let us know by checking the back of your renewal form. If there is enough interest, we will set the official date in the next newsletter.
Kp606
David – Tasmania
is active again and looking for his old friends. Unfortunately, David has been
having some health issues that kept him off the air for several years. He will
be listening on the call frequency. Kp842 George - Florida is also active
again. Nice to have you back around guys. Ex-Kp003 Carlos – Argentina
has also been lurking in the shadows in the evening. He promises to be more
active, and also listening on the call.
I’m
sure we all had a great time with the last NET. Congratulations to the winners,
and many thanks to all the controllers who gave up their Sunday afternoons to
volunteer their time. The scores are printed on page 4. Special thanks to 68AT119
John for participating and taking the highest score possible.
Each year, the NET period is always the same. It begins the first Sunday in October, and ends the last Sunday in November. This year there are 8 Sundays in these two months, making the highest possible score, 16 points. The early NET always begins at 12:00 GMT, and the later NET at 16:00 GMT. Americans, please be reminded that on October 28th, daylight savings time ends, and we will need to adjust our check-in time accordingly. Members with Internet access can check the Kp Web Site for the locations of controllers. Good luck to all.
